Nomads Translators Group Inc. was created in 2010 to serve a global, dynamic, complex and demanding market: the translation and adaptation of promos and scripts for television, business presentations and advertising. After years of writing and translating promos and TV scripts in English, Portuguese and Spanish for channels such as Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and MTV Latin America, Gisele decided to offer her expertise in the field of translation and adaptation of television and digital media, gathering a group of first-class translators. Every year advertising agencies and big media conglomerates invest millions of dollars launching and promoting products, services and content. As global borders were erased by the internet and social media, the consumer market has expanded beyond geographic barriers. It became imperative that translations not only be accurate and preserve the relevance of the information when regionalized and adapted in other idioms. Translation and Media regional adaptation is a very delicate and manual labor. It demands a deep knowledge of languages and a wide cultural understanding of each population. It is this world that we, at Nomads, navigate. Our objective: to translate with accuracy, and with respect to the nuances and peculiarities of each audience and region.
Our specialty is to interpret, translate, adapt, proofread and write original scripts and other texts. This includes on and off air promos, advertising and marketing campaigns, content for websites, blogs and social media, Marketing and Sales presentations, press releases, newsletter, biographies, among other things. We approach each one individually, aiming to preserve the original message in any language.
TWritten and spoken language are constantly evolving and renewing, influenced by sociopolitical and socioeconomic factors, fads, technology and even the change of values in each new generation. To be consistently immersed in the culture of the languages in which we are experts is essential to our work as translators.
Nomads’ founder, Gisele, has a wealth of experience in translation and TV production, as well as an academic background in Social Communication and Philosophy. Her passion for languages, cultures and travels began early in life. As a child, Gisele would trade any birthday gift for a trip. And what fascinated her the most was listen to the stories told by the habitants of the places she visited. After traveling Latin America and working many years in Fashion and Journalism, in Brazil as well as in Europe, she moved to the United States and, in the early 1990’s, began working on international TV channels, translating and adapting scripts and On-air Promos for cable television shows that were premiering and airing in Brazil. Later, she went on to work as a producer for channels such as Nickelodeon Latin America, MTV Latin America, and Disney Channel. In 2010, Gisele created Nomads Translators Group and now, together with her team, dedicates herself to doing what she loves the most: writing, translating and traveling the world…listening to stories. These days she lives between Miami, Buenos Aires and Rio but…she still loves Barcelona and Berlin. And the Middle East. Ah, and many little villages in Europe… And the Brazilian Northeast… But not as much as Cambodia…. Did we mention the countryside of Minas Gerais? And the beaches in Cartagena…the Argentinian mountains…
An English and Spanish translator, Thiago graduated from Faculdades Integradas Hélio Alonso (FACHA), in Rio de Janeiro, with a degree in Journalism. He pursued an early interest in the arts, working for four years at a cinema production company in Rio, after living in London for a while. After joining the Nomads team, Thiago used the flexibility of the profession to pursue his passion for acoustic guitar by enrolling in the National Conservatory and Escola Villa-Lobos in Rio, where he took lessons with first-class teachers. Given his love of writing, he also became a music critic, as well as being a musician. Nowadays, he lives as a true digital nomad, working around the world in bars, cafes and informal offices. In 2014, he started a world trip and is currently spending a long season in Europe, without knowing his next destination. He has been with Nomads’ Translator Group since 2012, translating content for websites and social media, including news, history, web TV programs and television scripts.
An English and Spanish translator, and English teacher since 2001, Cristine graduated in Journalism at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in 2005. As an enthusiast of grammar, spelling and writing, the perfectionist Cris was delighted when invited to work as a proofreader at Nomads in 2013. She soon expanded her functions and began translating, producing and coordinating all the group’s flow of projects, deliveries and communication, keeping everyone running smoothly. She lives in Florianópolis with her husband, Gabriel, also a journalist and Nomads’ collaborator. Cris has a passion for cats, food, wine, internet and TV (especially series, reality shows and cartoons). She loves translating news and television content (show descriptions, marketing presentations, on-air content, and subtitles, among other things). Oh, have we mentioned that Cris kills it in the kitchen as well?
